With the surge of the coronavirus hitting the U.S., many music festivals have been canceled including Shambhala Music Festival, Electric Forest, Ultra Music Festival, Tomorrowland, and more. To help spread positivity among disheartened festival-goers, many EDM promotion companies have held virtual raves — which have also encouraged people to stay home during isolation.

When festivals began to publicly announce cancellation or postponed dates, many people were upset about missing their favorite festivals in-person.

Shortly after the cancellation of festivals, music promotion companies like Insomniac, Proximity, and Brownies & Lemonade started hosting virtual raves where people could stream via YouTube or Twitch. These virtual festivals have been happening almost every weekend since late March, with heavy lineups that have satisfied regular festival-goers.

Just this last weekend, Porter Robinson with the help of Recording Academy Musicares, Goldenvoice, Brownies & Lemonade, and SLUSH Management hosted ‘Secret Sky’, which was held on May 9. Nearly four million people watched and #SecretSky was number two trending on Twitter.

Even though most music festivals are canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, many musicians are trying to keep the music community alive during this hard time with virtual streams. Viewers are also encouraged to support musicians by donating to the COVID-19 Relief Fund that helps peers in the music industry that have been affected by the Coronavirus pandemic.

These virtual Rave-A-Thons have not only kept viewers satisfied at home during isolation, but are also continuing to be a big event.

With summer fast approaching, there will definitely be more virtual festivals to look forward to and this is only the beginning for 2020.
